Timmins Porcupine Search & Rescue (TPSAR) responds to numerous searches initiated by governing agencies such as local and provincial police as well as local ambulance service. All members must be trained to a provincial searching standard as set by the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association (OSARVA). Members must recertify on an annual basis.
Members also work in conjunction with ambulance personnel to assist with the care and extraction of patients who have obtained injuries in off-road activities and difficult to reach locations. Members may also assist police agencies in evidence searches.
TPSAR has:
- Approximately 40 active members
- Personnel trained in First Aid, and First Aid supplies
- Personnel trained in tracking
- Experienced field personnel
- A mobile command vehicle
- Communications systems including radios and mobile internet
- Search and rescue equipment
- Command support equipment
